Zhuzhou Laboratory Base of State Key Laboratory of electrical power equipment insulation was officially founded in 28th, June. 

Zhuzhou Laboratory Base of State Key Laboratory of electrical power equipment insulation was co-founded by electric locomotive company, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Zhuzhou Times New Material Technology Co., Ltd., combining the scientific research platform of advanced insulation technology of state key laboratory of power equipment insulation of Xi’an Jiaotong Univetsity, the only state laboratory specializing in electrical power equipment insulation, research and engineering application platform of high end insulation system of electric locomotive company, and, research and industry advantage of New Material Technology Co., Ltd.. 

The establishment of Zhuzhou laboratory base of State Key Laboratory of electrical power equipment insulation marks that electric locomotive becomes the first research and manufacture company of electric locomotive which is capable of electric locomotive insulation system verification and evaluation, and owns high end basic insulation test technology. Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive company will avail itself of this opportunity and set up characteristic insulation basic research and experimental bases such as “insulation reliability test base for high speed and heavy loaded locomotive” , “offshore wind turbine and oil drilling platforms motor insulation weathering test base”, “frequency conversion motor insulation research and experimental base”, “New special insulation materials research and application of test base” and “permanent magnet motor insulation system research”, etc. so as to obtain key insulation materials and solve problems which have been hindering the development of insulation technology and to continuously enhance the capability of independent innovation and scientific research strength and meet the demanding requirements from high-end products like bullet train, heavy haul railway and offshore wind power and effectively improve insulation technology as well as China South Locomotive CSL and even the whole country’s overall strength of producing traction electric machine, transformer and wind power generation. 

As the research and production base for traction electric machine, transformer, wind power generation and industrial special motor, CSL has long been developing motor insulation technology and has accumulated much experience. In order to meet motor insulation system’s requirements for high heat resistance, high reliability and harsh environmental adaptability, CSL commenced to build insulation laboratory in 2008, which is a research base for converting advanced insulation technology into high-end product engineering applications and serves as a technological platform for the sustainable development of motor insulation system. The laboratory is completed in 2012 with a total area of 6600 square meters and overall investment of more than 50 million yuan. It is equipped with about 70 sets of specialized test equipments and more than 20 graduates and undergraduates. The laboratory has several specialized test components including test of physical and chemical properties, processing , mechanical properties , electrical and environmental conditions, etc. and boasts advanced testing methods and equipments like those for insulating material and partial discharge structure test, automatic AC breakdown voltage withstand test, automatic test of power frequency dielectric loss, PJ surge interturn pressure test, high-frequency pulse test, automatic AC voltage withstand heating aging test, low temperature and low pressure electrical test, mechanical vibration test, salt spray test, damp heat test, hot and cold impact test, and sand abrasion test. The laboratory is capable of making evaluation and reliability analysis about the insulation life of traction motor insulation system and assessing the insulation structure with adaptability to environments like plateau, coastal and desert, etc. As a result, CSL is now capable of providing strong technological support to high-speed trains and heavy freights for adapting to diversified regional climate in China.
