Cap Metro says the project will increase ridership by 15 percent, reduce commute time by 5 to 10 minutes and ultimately add more routes for the trains.
Right now 65,000 board the train every month.
"The measure of success, from my perspective, is that it si running and our ridership is increasing. But now we have to improve our line and add service to meet the demand," Melvin Clark, CapMetro Train Operations, says.
It will be adding siding to the track, which means there will be an extra section of track that will allow one train to get out of the way as another goes by. Plus Cap Metro will add railroad tracks.
Some rail cars will receive safety improvements that will allow them to go faster.
