The Xiamen-Zhangzhou intercity rail line (R3) has been listed as a provincial key project, and the 71km journey from Xiamen to Zhangzhou is expected to be shortened to 50 minutes.

 

An inspection team has finished a tour to Shanghai and Jiangsu to learn from successful experience for the construction of an intercity rail line between Xiamen and Zhangzhou, which is expected to start construction within this year. 

 

The Xiamen-Zhangzhou intercity rail line (R3) has been listed as a provincial key project, and the 71km journey from Xiamen to Zhangzhou is expected to be shortened to 50 minutes. 

 

With planned investment of 15 billion yuan, the intercity rail line will link Zhangzhou downtown to Xiamen downtown (Xiamen Railway Station), passing through Longhai, Zhangzhou Development Zone and the Xiamen-Zhangzhou undersea tunnel. 

 

It is expected to complete construction by the end of 2020. 

 

Part of the intercity rail line will share the same route with the Xiamen-Zhangzhou undersea tunnel, which will link Xiamen University on Xiamen Island with South Fort in the Zhangzhou Development Zone and it is also expected to start construction this year. 

 

The new undersea tunnel, the third in Xiamen, will cut the travel time from Zhangzhou port to Xiamen downtown to about 5 minutes.
