A total of 103 China - Europe trains left Xiamen in the first 11 months of this year, delivering 7,094 containers worth 1.87 billion yuan ($282 million).

The head of the transport bureau said that this international logistics channel across Eurasia has not only boosted the economic development in countries and regions along the rail routes, but also promoted the growth of Xiamen's import and export trade.

He indicated that many new routes have been opened this year, the number of dispatched trains has seen continuous growth, and the type of cargos has also been enriched.

Since trains boast the advantages of security, speediness, low cost, and large freight volume, and are not susceptible to weather, products with strict time and cost requirements, such as electronics and daily necessities, start turning to trains.

Besides, the China – Europe trains from Xiamen have also changed from one-way fully loaded to two-way fully loaded, further reducing transportation costs.

Take the Xiamen – Moscow trains for example. The trains head for Moscow with textiles, computer accessories, home appliances, hardware, and building materials and run back with raw materials of timbers, paper pulp, pitch, and oils.

According to the recently released Budapest Outline on China – CEEC Cooperation, all the countries in central and eastern Europe are willing to promote the development of China – Europe trains.

Based on the outline, the Xiamen Transport Bureau plans to improve railway facilities and optimize rail services to accelerate the development of China – Europe routes.
