A passenger tries the new facial recognition system at Yuncheng Railway Station.

 

Yuncheng Railway Station has recently installed a facial recognition system at ticketing barriers to help make the station more efficient.

The technology has been brought in as part of efforts to ease passenger congestion during the Spring Festival travel rush.

Passengers only need to scan their second generation ID cards and stand in the designated area to look up at the camera as they pass through the facial recognition channel.

In order to pass through the barrier, passengers need to remove face coverings and sunglasses. Passengers using temporary forms of identification must have their identity verified by a staff member.

The new technology is really helping us process passengers faster and with greater efficiency, said a member of staff working at the station.
